Jessica: Recount Monday
Hello! So, yesterday was Tuesday... I think... But I'll do Monday first.
Monday
On Monday, we got up and left the hotel place as soon as we were ready, and went out to find breakfast. Dad had found a small cafe that got really good reviews! When we got there, we discovered it didn't open till later... So we went off to the playground that was just a little way up the street. It wasn't a very good playground, but it was still fun. However, I have made one very important discovery: New Zealand has the worst swings ever! All the ones I've seen so far anyway...
After that, we went to The Brown Trout cafe for breakfast... While we were in there, we connected to their free wifi and I used it to message Issy and send her a few pictures.
After that, we did a bit more driving around trying to pass time to make sure we weren't too early for the ferry. We also stopped at the shops to grab some food to take to Stuart Island with us. We then went to another playground for lunch!
Then, we also checked out what we first thought was a lighthouse, which then turned out to be a Captains Quarters... or something like that.
Anyways, we headed to the ferry waiting room place where we still had to wait another half hour. It was a good thing we got there early because that meant we could get close to the front of the line for boarding. Both Mum and Lachie are seasick though, so I don't think they enjoyed they it that much! I was slightly unwell, so I stayed on the back of the boat leaning over the railing and generally getting soaked!
Anyways, once we finally got off, Mum and the little boys went off to a park we could see further up (I think that was our third park!) which left Dad and I to collect our luggage! After around fifteen minutes, our luggage was unloaded and we spent the next five to ten minutes walking it over to the other! We waited a while to see how we would get up to our house, since we didn't have a car or anything like that. So, Dad and Andy decided to walk up to our house (heading up the "mountain") while Mum, Lachie and I waited for the taxi to come get us and our luggage.
We headed up, the house is so cool with a balcony that overlooks the other side of the mountain and Inlet View. We called rooms, and after much arguing, I got my own room while Andy and Lachie shared, which honestly makes sense! Anyways, my room has a really cool view over everything! Although, sunrise isn't till around 8:00 so I don't really get up to see first light...
After that, we basically just settled in and unpacked everything. We also have a recurring visitor which is kind of cool cause he just lands on the balcony and the chairs. He's a Kaka, which is a type of NZ bird. I think Andy did like three blog posts on it! Anyways, we're all settled in, below are some pictures of my room and the view... but first, just pointing out that while it is kinda cool to have a window in your shower, I still want a bit more privacy!
My Bedroom:
I'll be posting a blog about yesterday soon, hopefully today... Also, I really recommend the The Greenhouse netflix series... it's kinda addictive!
